RESEARCH

As not only a dancer but an avid learner, I find research to be not only important to my development as a scholar, but truly quite exciting. I am curious about the body and how each of our bodies are unique in beautiful ways. I am curious about how our backgrounds as dancers and as people affect how we create and how we embody our goals and thoughts. I want to continue to delve deeper into the intricate and articulate anatomy that creates our bodies and how being aware of our bodies can make us better movers.

I have so far conducted research from the lens of the One Hour Study where I observed the relationship between contemporary and classical ballet. Through Composition 1, I have researched my body and my preferences in depth and collected meaningful information about myself as a mover. During my senior year of high school, I focused on how ballet affects how dancers perceive their bodies and how a negative body image can affect a person. I know that my research in these categories will not end here. I am excited to continue my learning exploration as I continue to experience the world of dance.

BODY IMAGE IN BALLET

Although I feel that body image and self-confidence concerns are present in all forms of dance, it seems that they are most commonly associated with classical ballet. This makes sense simply because of the nature of ballet...
