ARTIST STATEMENT

I dance because it is one of the best ways for me to release energy, both positive and negative, that I carry with me. It is in the studio that I am able to channel energy from those around me, my teacher, and myself and use it in a very tangible way. To create, to explore, to be curious, to make mistakes and to learn from them. I dance because I am fully responsible for my work no matter what. Whether the work I produce is good or bad, it is mine, and I have the privilege to take ownership. I dance because movement is conducive to learning. I will never be perfect and there is always someway, somehow that I can improve myself as an artist and as a person. Dance, in this sense, gives me purpose. I continue to dance because I feel that my personality is deeply linked to the nature of dance. I am goal oriented, accountable, responsible, motivated, creative, humble, reliable, and technical: all traits that I strive to maintain not only in the dance studio, but also in my every day life. I dance because everyone I meet in the dance world amazes me and inspires me to be who I am, but to never settle into complacency. I dance because it is simply nothing less than exhilarating.
